Mader Dragon Egg

It looks like an egg. It spins like a top. It is considerably more interesting than either.

The Dragon Egg is a departure from Mader's stem-top designs — no long neck, no handle, just a dense, rounded egg shape with a metal tip at the base and striped paint at the bottom that reveals itself when spinning. The egg form makes it harder to get started than a conventional top — which is part of the point. At difficulty level 4 of 6, it requires a proper grip and a committed launch, and the reward for mastering it is a top that spins with unusual stability and presence. Made from mixed deciduous hardwoods that vary by batch — each Dragon Egg arrives with its own wood grain, weight, and character. The metal tip adds duration and precision to the spin. One of the most visually striking tops in the Mader range.

Mader Kreiselmanufaktur was founded in 1991 by Klaus Mader, a carpenter who loved spinning tops and wanted to make them properly. His workshop sits in the foothills of the Austrian Alps, and each top is handcrafted — often by Klaus himself — from a single piece of sustainably sourced European hardwood. Some tops go through up to 20 individual processes: turning, burning, embossing, carving, brushing, painting, and varnishing. Every original Mader top is identifiable by the burned stripe around its equator. The colour method guarantees 100 years of colorfastness.
