Our Story

A Real Store for Real People
Little Paper Planes is a premium children's store in Mount Martha, opened in 2025 by two parents with design backgrounds who couldn't find the kind of toy shop they wanted to walk into. So they built it — around the corner from where their daughter goes to school.
Rebecca brings the eye. Brendan brings the detail. Both of them will know your name if you come in twice. The shop is small on purpose: every piece in it was chosen by one of them, handled by one of them, and would be given by one of them to someone they actually like.
They are not a head office. There is no buying committee. When you ask a question about a Maileg mouse, a Steiff bear, or a Toverlux lamp, you are asking the person who unpacked it that morning.

The makers we chose, and why
Maileg from Denmark, because a mouse in a matchbox is the kind of gift a child keeps for life. Steiff from Germany, because a bear with a button in its ear has meant something since 1880. Moulin Roty from France, because the first comforter a baby loves should be made by people who understand softness. Charlie Bears from Cornwall, because some bears have enough personality to earn a name.
Toverlux from the Netherlands, because a lamp that glows through a hand-cut silhouette changes the way a room feels at bedtime. Ferm Living from Copenhagen, because the child's room deserves the same design eye as the rest of the home. Tara Treasures from Melbourne, because Fair Trade felt playscapes made from New Zealand wool are worth knowing about.
Every brand here was chosen for a reason we can tell you about in person.
The art of child’s play
Our philosophy comes from the quiet joy of simple things. Folding a paper plane. Turning the page of a book.
Childhood at its best is calm, playful and full of wonder.

A considered collection
From German-made toolsets to handmade felt creations, our range is carefully chosen. Heritage, craftsmanship, story. Gifts you won’t find everywhere.
Because a gift should feel like more than a purchase.
It should feel like care.
We hope to see you
We are open every day in Mount Martha village — a calm, design-led space opposite the playground, near the beach. Come and see what we mean. Hold the bear, turn on the lamp, meet the mice. It is a better way to choose a gift than scrolling.
