Awagami Mingeishi papers are the most popular coloured washi paper in Japan as they come in a range of lovely colors, have a subtle soft texture and are very easy to use.

Washi is a traditional, handmade Japanese paper known for its strength, beauty and long history, made from the inner bark fibers of plants like the kozo, mtsumata, and gampi. The process involves specific techniques like the nagashi-suki method, using pure water, plant-based mucilage called neri, and a bamboo screen (su) to create durable, sometimes translucent sheets used in calligraphy, bookbinding, lamps, and as wall coverings. Washi is also recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, with communities preserving and passing down the craft.
