Meri Meri, Tree Cape Costume

Layers of green tulle, a gold star headband, and decorations that make a child into the most festive tree in the room.
The Tree Cape costume is one of those Meri Meri pieces that comes out every December and never quite makes it back to storage. The cape is built from layers of light green tulle over a darker green polycotton lining, decorated with a collection of embellishments made from ribbon, felt, gold glitter fabric, and pompoms — reindeer, holly, stars, and candy canes. A gold glitter elastic collar and popper fastener keep it in place; a flexible gold headband with gold glitter fabric stars completes the look. This is the costume for Christmas concerts, festive parties, and — for Book Week — any number of tree characters.

Meri Meri was founded in 1985 by Meredithe Stuart-Smith — a mother who started hand-making cards on her kitchen table to fit work around her family. Named after her childhood nickname, the brand has grown to a Cheltenham-based design studio with 20 designers, now selling in 80 countries. Their dress-up range is couture quality for children's imaginations.
