The iconic Volkswagen Type 2 in sunset yellow — and three different vehicles hiding inside it.

The Beach Bus Sunset is Candylab's officially licensed VW Volkswagen Type 2, complete with the shiny emblem on the front that makes it the real thing in miniature. The modular magnetic construction is the standout feature: remove and rearrange the body sections and the same bus transforms between a Beach Surf Van, a Camper with pop-up top, and a flat-bed pick-up — three vehicles in one, each configuration with its own personality. The magnetic surfboard snaps cleanly to the roof or flat bed in any arrangement.

Sunset yellow and white bodywork, solid beech wood, water-based paint, clear urethane coat, ABS plastic rims, rubber tyres. At 635g it is the heaviest vehicle in the Candylab range and feels exactly like it should.

Candylab was founded by Romanian architect Vlad Drăgușin, who grew up loving mid-century American muscle cars and couldn't find toy versions worth keeping. His first cars — funded on Kickstarter, made in Brooklyn — ended up at MoMA, the Design Museum in London, and at Colette in Paris. The toy car that children play with and adults quietly decide to keep.
