There is a moment on Christmas Eve when a stocking stops being a decoration and becomes a promise. Maileg's Christmas Stocking in Check is a full-size one, 59cm tall, pieced together from a patchwork of different fabrics in Christmas colours.
The outside is mostly cotton and linen with a little viscose, lined in polyester, and when January comes it goes through a 30°C wash and is stretched back into shape while damp. It should not be confused with our little 11.5cm fabric stockings, which hang on the tree. This one belongs on the mantelpiece, and it is big enough that whoever fills it will need to plan ahead.

- Cotton (56%), linen (38%) and viscose (6%); polyester lining
- Machine wash at 30°C, no tumble drying; reshape while damp

Hang it on the first of December. Somebody will check it every morning, just in case.
